Every year WPA hosts SELECT, an annual Art Auction Exhibition and Gala. 2013’s event marks the 32nd anniversary of the gala. The event is WPA’s biggest fundraiser of the year and provides critical funding for the organization’s many artist services and programming. The exhibition opens to the public in early spring, this year on February 16th.

This year, WPA collaborated with six notable curators from DC, Maryland, and Virginia to select the artwork featured in the show. WPA’s Board of Directors also made selections for the exhibition. The curated exhibition will open Saturday, February 16 at 6 pm and will be on view and open to the public until the gala. Over 100 works of art by top contemporary artists will be on display. SELECT curators will give talks in the weeks leading up to the gala, speaking on the artwork chosen for the exhibition.

The gala will be held on March 16th, on the 6th floor of the Peoples Building at 64 New York Avenue NE, just two blocks from the NoMa Metro station. The event is expected to draw more than 700 artists and art enthusiasts. The night of the gala promises guests an enticing evening event featuring music and multimedia entertainment from xculture.tv and a menu designed by celebrity chef Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground. Patrons and art lovers interested in acquiring work in the exhibition can do so the night of the gala auction with ticketed guests bidding on the work live at the event.

Tickets to the auction gala start at $300 and can be purchased by visiting the WPA website or contacting Maureen Clyne at mclyne@wpadc.org (202-234-7103 x5).

The SELECT Exhibition Opening Reception will be Saturday, February 16, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, located at 64 New York Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20002. Exhibition hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm, February 20th through March 15, 2013. SELECT Curator Talks will be held on February 20th and 27th from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The Gala will be March 16, 2013 from 6:30pm to midnight.
