WPA partners with Brooklyn, NY-based Animation Block Party to present Hothouse Video: Fantastic Voyage.
Conlon and Harker make collaborative videos with a playful approach to serious sociopolitical issues. The banality of the found objects they employ in their works belies an incisive, yet poetic, social criticism on issues such as national identity, mass consumerism and social behavior.
PARTICIPATING ARTISTS
Olivia Huynh (Baltimore, MD), Christopher Mauch (New York, NY), Ryan Mauskopf (New York, NY), Louis Morton (Los Angeles, CA), Dana Sink (Harrisburg, PA), Sam Stephens (New York, NY), and Stephanie Swart (Brooklyn, NY)
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Hothouse Video: Fantastic Voyage will feature six animated short films leading viewers on a variety of adventures of love, enlightenment, exploration, and self-preservation. This exhibition marks the first time in the history of the Hothouse Video series that WPA has partnered with another organization to select its featured works. These artist-created films prove that animation isn't just for children's cartoons and family fare. Funny, poignant, and imaginative, the works in Hothouse Video: Fantastic Voyage artfully illuminate the universal hopes, dreams, and fears we all share.
ABOUT ANIMATION BLOCK PARTY
Founded 11 years ago by Casey Safron, Animation Block Party (ABP) is the largest animation festival on the East Coast. The inaugural festival was held in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and has since expanded to an annual festival with corporate sponsorship, as well as juried prizes and awards for participating animators. ABP now spans multiple days of screenings, receives hundreds of submissions from the US and abroad, and draws more than 2,500 attendees.
