The Lab For Remixed Knowledge
The Lab for Remixed Knowledge transformed the WPA office into an interactive research space for exploring the techniques and implications of remixing knowledge. The Lab, led by artist Adam Good, invited visitors to become researchers in its work in the emerging fields of object-oriented thought, quantum semantics and radical recombinance.
Visitors learned how to apply basic techniques of sampling and remixing to sources of knowledge, appropriating and adapting language from our interdisciplinary library into an open data set for collective experimentation. Together they created concepts, remixed descriptions, and discovered new terrains of knowledge and understanding to explore. By donating a source text and/or contributing to the Lab's work through simple exercises, visitors received certificates of membership in the first Lab for Remixed Knowledge.
The Lab opened and closed with interactive performance lectures by chief researcher Adam Good, who also conducted research from the Lab every Thursday during office hours, and posted research findings online. The Lab hosted an afternoon of presentations by guest researchers on Thursday, August 19th.
ABOUT COUP D’ESPACE
Coup d’Espace is WPA’s member-generated programming series. By inviting member artists and curators to plan installations, exhibitions, and events in its office project space, WPA provides a venue for unusual collaborations, exploration of new concepts, and the production of new and experimental work. Coup d’Espace allows artists and curators to utilize the WPA office as a laboratory or workshop space, to introduce new and in-process projects and present challenging ideas.
