My paintings depict the natural organic world in relationship to the human architectonic influence. For example, with the group of paintings titled, Flotsam and Jetsam, I have created a multi-faceted installation. Each individual painting, with its combination of colors and lines, draws upon a different spatial feeling, from weighted security to an unknown weightlessness. By standing in the ideal position, the paintings as a group serve to alter the viewer's perception of space by providing the illusion of a continuous horizon line, which expands despite the confines of the physical architectural environment. These paintings reflect my daily visual experience of the angular, human-created environment juxtaposed to nature's soft edge expansiveness. These themes are further explored in my work as a multi-media artist both in installation and live performance through the use of digital media and video projection.
