LARGE-SCALE SCULPTURE??ARCHITECTURAL AND MODERN YET BASED ON FUNDAMENTAL CONSTRUCTS, THE PRIMARILY OUTDOOR WORKS STACK LINEAR ELEMENTS INTO HORIZONTAL NETWORKS OF COLOR AND FORM.

Even as a child I was drawn to making things with blocks and play sets that allowed me to construct buildings and bridge-like models and structures and I imagine that it is evident that influences that relate to architecture and design can be seen as manifesting themselves early on in my life. I suspect too, that the bright toy-like colors I use to finish the works in this series stem from connections formed during those years. The bright colors enable the works to stand out from their usually natural outdoor settings calling attention to the individual pieces on one hand while, on the other, defining the overall shape of the ensemble as a whole object. Rather than making solid forms perhaps like the work of David Smith I have allowed the linear nature of the lumber and construction materials to influence the direction of my endeavors. As a result, most of the tower sculptures are networks made of three-dimensional objects having one dimension significantly longer than the other two. I like how the bright beams and boards are able to define the space in which the whole object resides without completely separating it from its surroundings.
