Full Artist's statement
I explore the idea of home as a place of origin. The scenes I paint are real places from my childhood. They are taken from the family cottages where I spent my summers on Lake Winnipeg, Canada. It helps me to revisit these rooms because painting them conjures up pleasant memories of the people who took me in and cared for me.
My exploration of the physical embodiments and psychological notions of home, as well as conditions of presence and absence, are extensions of my emotional inquiries and reflections upon personal growth.
