A place close by where the neighborhood meets, hangs out; ritualistic in that you know you’ll always find some sociable contrast to a restless rural isolation.  Shuttered for weeks, the welcoming coffee shop; small restaurants –vacant-- gives a listless feel to the village.  The experience of isolation for safety on a scale reaching an entire society has a strange feel, even if you are engaged in activities that feel worthwhile in your home.  No chance meetings, you must plan –takes the thrill out of- “think I’ll just go hang out at the coffee shop” when what you’ll experience is a quick hand out the door with your coffee; and your companions standing at a distance wave at you.
