Full Artist's statement
Art has always had a strong presence in my personal world. But life's realities got in the way for decades.
I had come to the U.S. for higher education not realizing that the civil war in Lebanon would change my plans of return. I felt alien but I fought for acceptance and integration. Fine Arts took the back seat for a while, coming up for air only sporadically over the years. My career in graphic design kept me engaged with color, composition, photography and typography. But It is only in recent years that I have been able to explore and develop new vocabulary and media on my own terms.
The visual symbols and images of my fragmented world find their way onto paper and canvas. Although there is still a long road ahead, some shapes and colors of my tumultuous journey so far, have found a place to rest and play for a while.
