Artist's statement

Full Artist's statement

I am drawn to places in the landscape that bear the trace of human work, or where people are actually working.  My repeated encounters with a place, like a long, deep marriage, lead me to discoveries about its particular nature and meaning.

I paint outdoors on site.  Painting in a place can be a reason to stand, witnessing all that goes on over a period of hours, or seasons or years.  I endeavor to find an authenticity of light, and of place.  Over time, I can find an equivalent for the world with paint.
