Full Artist's statement
Born in 1968 to a German portrait artist mother and a US military father, I absorbed my mother’s artistic lessons as we migrated around the American South before arriving in the Washington DC area in 1984. Modern art viewing in Germany has always provided inspiration and sets the tone for my paintings. Recent exhibits include a series on the film Barbarella and a solo show devoted to Lucy, the skeleton unearthed in Ethiopia.
I use a process of "paint it, then see it": an approach that starts with undirected painting followed by contemplation and finally construction of a composition. All of the paintings are oil and most are on alumnimum (Dibond) panel.
