WPA opened as one of the District's earliest alternative spaces in 1975. In addition to providing artists a place to experiment, to meet artists from outside the city, WPA was also a place of belonging. Today, as the DC artist community becomes increasingly fractured, we believe it is more important than ever for WPA to support and nourish artist communities. That is why our programming is artist-driven. Artists need places where they can create the art scene they want to live in. WPA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are fully tax-deductible to the amount allowed by law.
