Joanna Marsh is The James Dicke Curator of Contemporary Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Prior to joining the Smithsonian in 2007, she served as Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut where she curated exhibitions of emerging and mid-career artists, including Jonathan Horowitz, Iona Rozeal Brown and Kota Ezawa. Marsh holds an MA in Post-War and Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute, London. Her recent projects include Jean Shin: Common Threads, Local Color: Washington Painting at Midcentury, and the forthcoming Alexis Rockman: A Fable for Tomorrow, which premieres at the American Art Museum in November 2010. The exhibition is Rockman’s first mid-career survey and will be accompanied by a major publication.
