General Intern
DESIGN INTERN
Washington Project for the Arts is currently seeking a design intern for the Fall of 2011.
The Design Intern will be responsible for the revitalization of WPA’s web presence. Currently, the organization is in the process of building and launching a new website. We are looking for an advanced, responsible intern who will be able to take our new, unpublished website template and design changes to improve its visual impact.
Specifically, the intern will be responsible for improving the overall look and feel of the template, creating standardized templates and styles for subpages on the site, creating and populating subpages with content, and launching the site at its completion. The intern will work with the WPA team to ensure that the design improvements, functionality and information structure of the site and its subpages reflect the needs of each area of the organization. The intern will assist on additional projects that include the design of an annual report booklet and the design of membership materials.
This is a part-time, project-based position for one academic semester suitable for a Graphic Design or Digital Media Design Junior, Senior or recent graduate. Significant experience in adobe Dreamweaver is required. Knowledge of HTML and CSS a plus. This internship is unpaid, but academic credit can be arranged. To apply, please send a cover letter and resume as well as any relevant portfolio work to Christopher Cunetto at ccunetto@wpadc.org.
GENERAL INTERN
Washington Project for the Arts is currently seeking a general intern for Fall 2011. Our interns and work study participants have been and continue to be an outstanding source of support to this organization. An internship with WPA is a great opportunity for students to gain experience working within a professional environment and to become involved with the contemporary arts community of the District of Columbia region.
Projects for our interns vary from day to day depending on our programming. Interns in our office find themselves doing everything from assisting with fundraising events and exhibit installations to proofreading and stuffing envelopes. Interns will gain insight into the diverse functions that are necessary to create exhibitions and run a non-profit arts organization. Interns here find that the more effort they put into their internship experience, the more they get out of it. Internships are unpaid but hours are flexible and students can arrange to receive academic credit through their college or university.
The right candidate for a WPA internship is responsible, enthusiastic and organized. A background in the visual arts is not mandatory but is strongly preferred. Interns are expected to be prompt, able to meet deadlines, and operate effectively in an office environment.
Applicants interested in an internship for Fall 2011 should submit a resume and cover letter to Liz Georges at lgeorges@wpadc.org. No phone calls please.
